Critical Role Campaign 4 Reveals the Fighters Group

From the very beginning of the fourth campaign, recently appointed game master the talented storyteller has kept fans guessing with deep backstory, a colorful mix of characters, and a exciting storyline showcasing angels, demons, and sinister influences growing in strength within the city.

Warning: Spoilers for the third episode of the new season are included.

The Soldiers Table Unveiled

Episode 3 finished on a major cliffhanger and introduced the premier party of heroes who will branch out from the main group to embark on their own adventure, apart from the additional parties.

The combat-focused team features Teor (brought to life by Travis), the agile character (Laura Bailey), the strong-willed figure (the cast member), the cleric (Sam), and Kattigan (Robbie Daymond).

The Reason for Division

With 13 cast members, it was evident from the outset that keeping everyone at a single group would be unworkable.

Hence, the opening chapters of this story serve as an Introduction, weaving together the characters’ stories before splitting into three smaller tables: Fighters, Planners, and Questers.

Characteristics of the Warrior Group

Per the DM, the warrior group is for adventurers who are drawn to a traditionally charged combat and conflict-driven story mode where non-violent answers are rare.

At first glance, figures such as the squeamish cleric Wicander Halovar might appear mismatched, but the events of the latest installment demonstrate why these five characters are ideally matched for the Soldiers table.

Motivations for Departure

First, the party knows exactly where to proceed after a violent opening clash with the enemy group.

A former ally of Thjazi—whose demise initiated the narrative’s action—exploited the foes for his personal gain, entering the secret base, striking the character, and stealing all the powerful objects to sell off.

The antagonist then settled his debts and fled to a Halovar stronghouse in the remote area, above Dol-Makjar, with Cyd close behind.

Individual Reasons

Moreover, each member has a individual motive to exit the urban setting:

  • The rogue, as the close ally and trusted friend, desires vengeance.
  • Kattigan has experience in the northern area and warns that it is a dangerous environment.
  • The warrior and Wicander, having disobeyed his family’s wishes to kill Teor and instead freed him, have nowhere else to go.
  • However, their status as prominent individuals in the powerful family could assist the party reach areas they normally couldn’t.
  • Furthermore, The grateful character pledged a unbreakable promise to The cleric for his salvation and will now go with him anywhere.

Pursued by Authorities

In addition, all of them are sought by the authorities that govern the setting for a range of causes, making remaining behind dangerous:

  • The agile adventurer and The hero are known criminals.
  • Tyranny and Wicander betrayed the influential house and the army of fiends they are allied with.
  • The target is marked for death by the clan.

This means them no alternative but to travel to the northern region in search of the antagonist.

Future Episodes

According to the latest episode’s follow-up content, we discover that the warrior group won’t be around the following episode, leaving the rest of the cast members to assemble the Explorers and Strategists groups.

Audiences can anticipate discovering which adventurers will be where in Campaign 4’s concluding setup installment, released on October 24.
